.NET 8+ is used by 20.7% of professional developers, according to the 2025 Stack Overflow Developer Survey, which places it among the most widely used platforms. Separately, Statista data puts overall .NET usage at 25.2% among developers worldwide, while the older .NET Framework (versions 1.0 to 4.8) still accounts for 16.4%. So a meaningful share of production systems have not yet moved to the newer platform.
Stack Overflow, GoDaddy, and UPS run their production infrastructure on .NET, and Microsoft’s customer directory lists dozens more. In a Microsoft case study, GoDaddy’s principal software architect credited the move to .NET Core with faster production performance and better scaling, even though the switch happened on a live system.
